CPAP, Bi-Level PAP & Ventilator Lawsuit

Millions of people rely on CPAP, Bi-Level PAP and other mechanical breathing aids to treat sleep apnea. Unbeknownst to some, the machine they need in order to breathe may actually be releasing dangerous toxins and particles that they may inhale or ingest.
Medical manufacturer Philips Respironics, a Royal Philips subsidiary, announced a voluntarily recall in June 2021 for several of its sleep apnea machines amid reports that the machine’s sound abatement foam may degrade and release toxic gasses and particles that could cause chronic respiratory illnesses, poison the user, or cause cancer.
Philips Respironics, a Royal Philips subsidiary, created a repair and replacement program to assist patients with CPAP, Bi-Level Pap and ventilator devices that are included in the recall, but registration is required. The recall affects several Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (Bi-Level PAP), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and mechanical ventilator devices Philips manufactures. The devices contain foam used to help make the machines quieter. This foam is made of polyester-based polyurethane (PE-PUR). The foam can degrade over time and particles and gasses can enter the user’s airways which can be toxic.
